Do you have a soft spot in your heart for Booker T.?

It’s been eight years since we published the first book to spotlight Booker T. grads, Fulfilling the Vision: Celebrating One Art School’s Impact on the World.

This 176-page coffee table book celebrated Booker T. artists and teachers as never before. And since its release, new stories about even more of our talented grads have started to pile up!

Will you join us as a supporter of the new Fulfilling the Vision? The book’s title recognizes the vision that launched the school almost 50 years ago and the vision that each artist needs to pursue an art career. Book #1 honored the school’s first 40 years. It was used to solicit and win a coveted $30,000 grant from Canon for much-needed film and photography equipment. We believe that the more we keep telling these stories of success, the more we can solicit good things for our students in the future.

We need to raise more than $50,000 to send the book to print, creating Volume Two. Early support allowed our team to travel for interviews and photo sessions with as many artists in the book as possible (67 in the first one). Your financial support also allows us to produce the beautiful design that we accomplished in the first book, along with printing and other expenses. Please help us make the new book even better by contributing at whatever level you can.

Thanks in advance for your support. Sponsorship opportunities are listed below.  We are ready to complete this book and share all the new stories!

Here’s a sampling of people we will include in the new book:

  • David Yaffe, music critic and author of the Joni Mitchell biography, Reckless Daughter

  • Liz Mikel, acclaimed Dallas actress who just celebrated 30 years with the Dallas Theater Center

  • Jazzmeia Horn, talented jazz singer who performs internationally

  • Also, visual artists, actors, choreographers, educators, professionals, and creatives of every type

  • For Book #2, we will update the profiles of superstars such as Erykah Badu, Edie Brickell, Norah Jones, and many others because they have been busy! For example, we just learned that museum curator Pilar Tompkins Rivas left the Vincent Price Art Museum to join the soon-to-open (George) Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles.

  • We also plan to recognize grads who are entertainment lawyers, diplomats, activists, and professional do-gooders. There are so many stories to share from our Booker T. alums...
